I Spy Doll Quilt

The doll quilt my mom and I made to match O's I Spy quilt is perfect for playing on the go games of I Spy! We've rarely played I Spy with the quilt on her bed...probably because it's so big and it's in her room (obviously), and we do most of our playing upstairs in the den. The doll quilt is a different story :) She takes it everywhere, and she was excited when I showed her how we could play I Spy with it. Hmmm, maybe this will be another game for game night :)

  1. I love this idea. You should make an "eye spy bag." Do a search on the "Etsy" site for ideas. I'm sure your mom would be a great helper with this project and you could use your new sewing machine. I've seen "alphabet, number, animal, sounds," themed bags elsewhere too. Our bag has things such as: a dinosaur, penny, clothespin, letter of the alphabet, bead, shell, dice, heart, star, paperclip, etc. The bag is basically a small, fleece or fabric square that has a clear plastic window. Put the "goodies" inside and add sand, colored rice (or plain white rice), tiny clear beads, larger clearish plastic beads - you name it - to help disguise the hidden items. The back of ours has a label, but it isn't necessary. If you don't have one yet, make one because your daughter will love it and if you make a small one, you can stash it in the diaper bag. These are perfect for in the car, a trip to the doctor's office, waiting in line at the grocery store, etc.
Changing the subject, I love your blog. I'm attempting to incorporate many Montessori activities into our daily plan with my 3 year old daughter. Thanks for your wonderful content!!!

  3. Why do you call it an I spy quilt? Just cause there are so many different fabrics in it?

I like to quilt but I've never heard of anything like this before.

  4. Anon- I've seen those bags and I really want to make one for O...eventually. She has an I Spy bottle that is filled with rice and tiny toys and that is fun, but the bags are much cuter :)

My Boaz's Ruth- Yes, there are just a bunch of random fabrics used in the quilt and most of them have tiny details that make for a fun game of I Spy :)

  5. I made a similar patchwork rug that I backed with a towel to use in our kid's bathroom. We use it to play I-Spy in the bathtub! I-Spy has so many possibilities. We love it.

  7. We love our Ispy quilt too! You can see it on our blog. I had intended to make a small doll version when I made his larger one and never got around to it. I still have the fabric all cut for it. Maybe I will dig it out one of these days.
